THE CHALLENGE

Anyone who has shopped for a home knows how difficult it can be to find one that truly fits. Older homes often have small, compartmentalized rooms that don’t accommodate modern living or furniture well. New homes built by developers tend to prioritize trends and square footage that maximize returns, often at the expense of thoughtful layouts and long-term livability.

Remodeling an existing home, extensively customizing a plan, or hiring an architect to design a fully custom residence can quickly become cost-prohibitive.

THE HOME PLAN MARKETPLACE

Shopping for home plans online can feel overwhelming. The volume of options is enormous, quality varies widely, and it’s difficult to know which designs are genuinely well considered — and which may lead to costly compromises later.

For those seeking plans that support mobility or long-term adaptability, the challenge is even greater. Many plans labeled “accessible” fall short in practice, with layouts that require significant redesign to function well. Knowing what to look for makes a difference — but most buyers don’t have that experience.

ABOUT ME

I am a licensed architect in Washington, California, and Colorado, with more than 30 years of experience designing homes for a wide range of clients and lifestyles. Throughout my career, I’ve worked on projects that respond to specific needs while also developing design solutions that can serve many people well.

In 2011, I received a national design award from the American Institute of Architects and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In its announcement, the jury wrote:

"This award recognizes the excellence of your work and affirms the importance of good housing as a necessity of life, a sanctuary for the human spirit, and a valuable national resource."
